EDUCATE, ADVOCATE & SUPPORT CHILDREN WITH AUTISM/ASPERGERS SYNDROME!
Over the years, I have met with and spoken to hundreds of Parents who are desperate to help their AS child thrive emotionally and educationally at school. The issues we speak about have remained the same. Their child has become depressed, sad, not wanting to go to school. Parents report continued bullying of their child even though the school has an "anti bullying policy". They report that other children isolate their child during social times such as recess and lunch. They report that due to their child's AS and limited social skills that their children have no friends at school. Parents report that they have attended numerous Parent/Teacher conferences and ARD meetings with no resolutions to the above issues. Another major issue that needs to be addressed is that I often hear from regular education Teachers and even some special education Teachers that their school districts and administrators are not giving them the support, training and education that they need. Teacher's want the best for their students including students with AS. If their district does not provide prior education and training to understand and educate the student with Asperger's Syndrome, this sets everyone up to fail. We must support our Teachers, we must support our children with AS. I do need to point out that I'm am not placing blame on anyone or at Teachers or schools for these problems mentioned. Until a better way is learned to help all involved the same issues will continue. We the Parents, Administrators, and Teachers need to WORK TOGETHER! We need to do everything possible to finally get ON THE SAME PAGE! Our AS children also NEED their family members and peer’s to be educated and understand about Asperger's Syndrome. I am working for our children to have as many positive support
systems in their lives at home and at school.
So what can be done? A lot more can be done and I have been practicing what I have learned over the past several years not only with my own son who has AS but helping other parents, teachers, administrators learn what change needs to take place. I have created a remarkable easy system that brings immediate positive changes for everyone. I teach a FREE educational class in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to Parents and Educators who are wanting to make a difference!
